The obstacle
Education infrastructure and equity
Mueni has taught for eleven years. Her class of fifty-four sits in a room built for thirty-five.
She is careful not to sound like she is complaining about her school, which she says does more with less than most people would believe. Her concern is specific: practical subjects taught entirely in theory, and pupils who then meet a national exam that assumes otherwise.
She has stopped waiting for a laboratory and has started borrowing equipment from a secondary school two ridges away.
What gives hope
Shared practical facilities between neighbouring schools, arranged properly rather than through favours.
