The obstacle
Water access and representation
Mwikali has farmed the same two acres for thirty-one years. She raised four children on it, and buried a husband from it.
Her complaint is not poverty, which she describes as something she has managed. Her complaint is distance. The water point is far, the market is far, and the people who make decisions about both are furthest of all.
She has voted in every election since 1992 and says she has met an elected representative in her village exactly twice.
What gives hope
A borehole rota her village actually agreed to, and a representative who returns after the vote.
