The obstacle
Agricultural markets and farmer trust
Peter grew green grams on four acres last season and had a good harvest, which he describes as the worst possible outcome given the price he was offered.
There is no storage nearby. Produce held at home spoils or is eaten by weevils. So the price is whatever the man with the lorry says it is on the day.
He knows aggregation is the answer. He also remembers a cooperative that collected from this area in 2019 and never paid.
What gives hope
Local storage and weighing he can see, with payment terms written down and honoured.
