Youth

Skills, opportunity and enterprise.

More than political promises

Makueni's young people need more than political promises. They need practical skills, access to opportunity and pathways that allow them to turn their abilities into livelihoods.

The youth agenda will focus on connecting young people to skills, enterprise, technology, talent and real economic opportunities, while paying particular attention to those who are currently outside education, employment or training.

Skills that lead somewhere

Training should be connected to opportunity. Support will focus on practical skills and vocational training, alongside digital literacy, technology skills, entrepreneurship and financial literacy.

The aim is to help young people acquire skills they can use to find work, start businesses or pursue further opportunities.

Helping young people build

Young people with viable business ideas should have pathways to develop them. Support will be directed towards youth enterprises, innovative ideas and emerging businesses, with access to relevant training, financial knowledge, mentorship and connections that can help promising ideas move from concept to economic activity.

Talent is also an opportunity

Makueni's young people have talent in sport, creative industries and other areas that can become pathways to livelihoods. The agenda will support sports and talent development, helping young people develop their abilities while creating connections to opportunities, competitions, training and markets.

Connecting skills to opportunity

Training has limited value if young people are left to find opportunities on their own. The focus will therefore include linkages to government programmes, private-sector opportunities, development partners, training institutions and other employment or enterprise pathways.

Particular attention will be given to young people who are Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET). NGAAF's INEET programme already provides a relevant national framework for supporting NEET youth with skills and entrepreneurship support.
