Education

No child left behind. Education should not be determined by a family's ability to pay.

Every child deserves a fair chance

Every child and young person in Makueni deserves a fair opportunity to pursue an education and build a future. For many families, however, the cost of school fees and other educational needs can determine whether a child continues learning or is forced to drop out.

The education agenda will therefore focus on expanding access to existing support, improving how assistance reaches those who need it most, and helping young people progress from school into further education, skills training and employment.

Fair and transparent education support

Bursaries and scholarships should reach students on the basis of genuine need. The focus will be on strengthening a fair and transparent education support programme that reaches needy students across all six constituencies.

Support will cover students pursuing secondary education, TVET and technical training, colleges and university education, while connecting eligible students with scholarships and other education opportunities available through government and partner programmes.

Putting vulnerable students first

Particular attention will be given to students whose circumstances place them at greater risk of dropping out of school. This includes orphans, children from vulnerable and low-income households, students with disabilities and other young people facing significant financial barriers to education.

NGAAF already provides bursaries and scholarships for disadvantaged students, including orphans and students living with disabilities. The priority will be to ensure that eligible students in Makueni can access these opportunities through a transparent and accessible process.

From education to opportunity

Financial assistance is only one part of helping young people build their future. Education support should also be connected to mentorship, career guidance and skills development so that students can make informed decisions about their next steps.

Young people will be supported to identify scholarships, training programmes, TVET opportunities and other pathways that can help them transition from education into productive livelihoods.

A system that reaches every constituency

The objective is simple: no deserving student should miss an opportunity because they do not know where to apply, cannot navigate the process or come from a household that cannot meet the cost of education.

The education agenda will therefore place emphasis on access, fairness, inclusion and opportunity, with support reaching students across Makueni's six constituencies.
